a brightly painted merchant's caravan

[Nytingale's Instruments, Showroom]
The traveling caravan is well stocked with supplies for the most discriminating music lover. Pegs line the walls, holding tools and completed items, while a half-finished lyre is held in place by clamps on a workbench near the door. A shifting bead curtain covers the back wall of the room. You also see a hanging sign, the caravan door, a peg-board with some stuff on it, a wooden counter with some stuff on it, a battered folding table with some stuff on it, a curving wicker basket, and a slanted wooden rack with some stuff on it.
Obvious exits: none.

Nytingale al'Danae, Lutier

Before you buy, some information about my merchandise.
All sales are final, so best to know before you spend your coin.

Jackets are not pocketed, however they are cut loosely,
and may be worn over armor.

The shagreen instrument cases are of medium size, and
will hold a lute or mandolin easily. The leather long pouches
are of a size to hold a flute or whistle or anything about that
big that you care to put in. The drum pouch is just what it
sounds like - of a good size to hold a bodhran or tambourine.
Temple drums are much deeper than a bodhran, and won't
fit in a drum pouch.

Instruments are sold as is, and will not be altered by
me - removing the inlay would weaken the instrument,
and carving just plain can't be undone.

On the peg-board you see a drum stick, a supple black leather flute pouch, a lacquered scarlet instrument case painted with golden wrens, a pale blue shagreen drum pouch with a gilded phoenix latch, a deep blue woolen jacket with carved rowan buttons and an ebony violin bow.

a drum stick is 250 Kronars

a supple black leather flute pouch is 4375 Kronars
Long and narrow, the pouch is cinched by a blue-white crystal phoenix on a suede thong. A tiny nightingale perched on the branch of a linden tree is embossed along the bottom of the case, the mark of the maker, Nytingale al'Danae.

a pale blue shagreen drum pouch with a gilded phoenix latch is 5625 Kronars
Red-gold citrines glint along the tips of the phoenix's upraised wings like flickering flames. A circle of dancing herons is embossed in low relief along the top of the pouch.

a lacquered scarlet instrument case painted with golden wrens is 6875 Kronars
Tiny birds swirl and turn along the sides of the case. The clasp is formed in the shape of the Bards' Guild crest -- a wren perched atop a fisted gauntlet over a golden lute. A discreet brass tag on the bottom of the case bears the mark of its maker, a gilded nightingale perched on the branch of a linden tree.

A lacquered instrument case reads:
"Crafted by Nytingale al'Danae"

a deep blue woolen jacket with carved rowan buttons is 2500 Kronars
An embroidered badge bearing the crest of the Bards' Guild is sewn near the shoulder-line on the right sleeve. The deep cuffs are turned back and buttoned to mid-arm, allowing freedom of movement while playing.

an ebony violin bow is 875 Kronars
A gilded nightingale is inlaid along the bow's handle.

On the wooden counter you see a pear-shaped bloodwood rebec with an amber-inlaid soundhole, a polished flamewood lap harp, an elegant tiger maple cittern with an inlaid compass rose on the soundbox, a polished mahogany psaltery inlaid with a fragile band of jade vines, an oiled fishtail oak cistre with an elaborately carved fretwork rose and a delicate silverwillow lyre embellished with carved mermaids and seashells.

a pear-shaped bloodwood rebec with an amber-inlaid soundhole is 9750 Kronars
Fernleaf agate tips the tuning pegs, the translucent green-flecked white stone contrasting nicely with the instrument's intricate grain.

a polished flamewood lap harp is 37500 Kronars
No paint or stain obscures the wood's red and gold grain-lines. Carving is minimal -- a delicate rose at the end of the graceful curved arm. Instead, the maker has chosen to highlight the beauty of the wood, with its spiral grain and glorious, intense coloration. A simple gold plaque is affixed to the bottom of the soundboard, positioned to rest against the musician's heart as he plays.

A flamewood lap harp reads:
Nytingale al'Danae

an elegant tiger maple cittern with an inlaid compass rose on the soundbox is 11250 Kronars
Slivers of blue-green malachite form the primary points of the compass, the color emphasizing the red-gold veining of the wood. Aligned in a circle around it, the secondary points are made of slightly bubbled honey amber, with tiny pieces of ivory in an outer ring forming the tertiary directions. While the compass rose will never prevent the Bard from getting lost in the first place, the sweet tone and sheer beauty of the instrument will keep him company wherever his feet may take him.

a polished mahogany psaltery inlaid with a fragile band of jade vines is 17500 Kronars
Tiny jeweled birds perch within the vine thicket, some chasing each other in a madcap dance, others singing gaily, and still others caring for nestlings. Over it all, twenty-four strings await the musician's skill to bring the pictured avian serenade to life.

an oiled fishtail oak cistre with an elaborately carved fretwork rose is 10500 Kronars
As on a lute, the cistre's rose takes the place of the open soundhole in a traditional gittern. In this instrument, eight bands of wood intersect to form a star, around which a riot of flowering vines twine in lush profusion. A drone fixed within the instrument's bent neck vibrates with each plucked string to produce the characteristic echo that distinguishes the cistre from the lute.

a delicate silverwillow lyre embellished with carved mermaids and seashells is 3125 Kronars
Graceful silverwillow mermaids swim back to back, their tails meeting at the base of the lyre. Tuning pegs carved in the shape of tiny seashells hold the strings in place.

On the folding table you see a yellowed bone syrinx lashed with intricately knotted blood-red laces, a silver-keyed mistwood oboe adorned with cabochon peridots, a translucent white jade whistle carved to resemble a playful squirrel and a gold-banded boxwood recorder.

a yellowed bone syrinx lashed with intricately knotted blood-red laces is 3125 Kronars
Each hollow bone tube is of a different length than the one next to it, allowing a range of notes to be produced by the musician. The vivid red rawhide thongs lash each tube to a longer bone, split in half lengthwise, to form a rigid frame for the instrument.

a silver-keyed mistwood oboe adorned with cabochon peridots is 11250 Kronars
Silver bands edge the bell at the bottom of the instrument, inlaid with pale green gems whose color accentuates the subtle grey-green grain of the wood. The oboe's double reed makes it one of the harder woodwinds for a musician to play, yet the laughing, clown-like music it produces makes it a valued component of any orchestra.

a translucent white jade whistle carved to resemble a playful squirrel is 6875 Kronars
Delicate strands of copper overlay the whistle, emphasizing the animal's fur and whiskers. The slide that controls the pitch, also made of copper, is formed in the shape of a gnarled branch along which the squirrel climbs.

a gold-banded boxwood recorder is 9375 Kronars
Bands of ivory outline the finger-holes of the recorder, pale against the dark wood. A nightingale silhouetted against a linden leaf has been burnt into the base of the mouthpiece.

In the wicker basket you see a set of twenty-four strings and a set of seven strings.

a set of twenty-four strings is 1250 Kronars
a set of seven strings is 812 Kronars

On the wooden rack you see a pair of lacquered blue-green castanets overlaid with copper filigree, a scarlet gypsy tambourine with fluttering multi-colored ribbons and a shallow shaman's drum decorated with fluttering gold-beaded scarlet feathers.

a pair of lacquered blue-green castanets overlaid with copper filigree is 1250 Kronars
Bronze grosgrain ribbon, long enough to curl around the musician's wrist, connects each half of the castanets.

a scarlet gypsy tambourine with fluttering multi-colored ribbons is 2000 Kronars

a shallow shaman's drum decorated with fluttering gold-beaded scarlet feathers is 2771 Kronars
About the size of a bodhran, the shaman's drum is a shallow wooden cylinder with cross-braces on the back, allowing the user to hold it while playing, and padded with bearskin along the sides. Dozens of fluttering scarlet feathers decorated with gold and bone beads dangle from the edge of the drumskin.
