GemStoneIV Alterations Galleries: Everyone Else

These are some of the alterations I've designed for others. Some of them have been made, some haven't, and only the design's owners know for sure.

This one was done as a joke in the Ebon GillySpit chatroom in response to a request for a white sastchel with ferrets and fae. I got a lot of laughs from it.

an embroidered white silk satchel
The shredded remains of filmy iridescent wings dangle from within the clamped jaws of a black-and-tan ferret, the rest of the fae trapped beneath the rodent's forepaws.

Brimzstone asked me to fix his casting leathers. So here's the fixed version. Don't ask what the originals looked like. Really. Don't.

some weathered black casting leathers
Worn and faded from years of use, the armor is padded with harden scales that protect the wearer from critical blows. A golden-eyed dark emerald dragon is embossed on the front of the armor, wings spread wide. Tiny holes and scratches mar the broad wings, stretching to reach from pauldron to pauldron.

Shalysa asked for an engagement ring to match, thematically, the one her fiance gave her. This is what I came up with.

Note: The short was given to me, so I'm just posting the show.

Set perfectly atop this band is a pure black onyx rose depicted at the height of its bloom. A pair of hands meet at the rose, one belonging to a petite human girl, the other from a magnificently build elven man. Cradled within the blossom is a round-cut diamond, the edges hidden by the black petals. Intricately etched Nalfien runes bracket the setting and wrap around the band, alternating with the symbol of Tonis.

Mochi asked for a corset, silver silk, fae and galena, and suitable for an Aelotoi.

a shimmering pale silver corset
Swathes of iridescent gossamer silk are stitched together into a glistening corset, low cut in back to allow a comfortable fit for winged wearers. Spun silver cords lace up the sides and front, tiny faerie charms dancing on the ends and securing each intersection. The fanciful figures have been molded of shimmering galena, their tiny wings stained a rainbow of pearlescent colors.

Brimzstone challenged me to design a vultite katana. After beating him over the head with a big stick a few times, he finally gave me a few things to work with: gold, jade, and snake. This is what I came up with, admittedly not one of my best designs, but he likes it. So I guess that's all that matters.

a gold-hilted black vultite katana
Wrapped sinuously around the hilt, a jade-scaled snake provides a firm grip as well as the handguard. The tail curves in a wide arc, providing most of the tang, the tip ending at the head. A pair of faceted rubies flanks a sliver of black onyx for each eye, while the jaws clamp down on a raw gold nugget.

Brimzstone asked for a manacles design during the 3rd run of the '04 Dhu Gillywack. He gave me the following to work with: mithril, vultite, dark obsidian and skulls. This is what I came up with:

some scorched black mithril manacles
These folded mithril manacles have been reinforced with vultite rivets, and still appear sturdy despite the scorchmarks. Glinting through the soot, a line of skulls has been engraved around the thick mithril bands, each image set with tiny ruby eyes and in a slightly different position. Vultite padlocks seal the manacles, the obsidian-set catchplates chipped, but solid.

Sheelanagig asked for a gangly Zelian spring: bent out of shape, silver, invar, rats and crescent moons.

a crooked silver invar spring
Notches and bulges show where this spring has been bent out of shape and forced back time and again, some places nearly white from the stress. Intricately engraved rats trot in single-file up one side of the coiled wire, while the four moons dance through their phases on the other. The metal has been hammered flat into a small disk at each end, a tiny ora crescent moon set in the center.

Asmodea wanted a firecat kitten, but the merchant wouldn't let him take the description straight from the bestiary. Here's an alternative I offered:

a sleek orange-red kitten
Fiery black eyes stare out of an imperial pale orange face, the fur darkening to deep crimson on the back and bright orange down the legs and tail. The beast's coloring gives a faint tint to its short sharp claws.

Shadiya asked for some help on a skirt. She was having trouble with showing skin through the criss-crossing laces. This one I know got made, because she was wearing it the next time I saw her on the Dhu.

a thigh-length red suede skirt
Braided leather cords lace up each side of this skirt, leaving diamond-shaped openings from waist to hem. Hammered silver disks hold each intersection and knot in place, keeping the bindings form-fitting. More disks are sewn into the waist as a gleaming belt.

Pickles! Rarely do I get something so interesting to work with, but that's what Dillmont wanted, so that's what Dillmont got! And Hanrarn was wonderful in making it!

a black-edged green linen handkerchief
Large, bumpy pickles have been embroidered along the border of this fine handkerchief, dark stain spots around them indicating the handkerchief is much used. Ants, roaches, and a variety of other scavenging bugs march between and around the pickles, while brilliant blue beetles stand guard.

Shadiya liked my twining iceblossom tattoo so much she had me put roses on it for her!

a twining blood-red rose tattoo
Slender, thorny green-leafed vines encircle Shadiya's neck in an intricate braid, closed and half-furled rosebuds drooping on their stems. Curled tendrils snake down from the choker, flowing across the shoulders and down the back, the leaves darkening to a dark pine green, while the unopened blossoms pale to a blush pink. Its petals spread in full bloom, a single rose nestles at the throat, tinged a deep blood red.

This is a design I did for myself, before I found out that yes, someone COULD put a show description on my poison longsword. I prefer tap/shows, so if someone wants to use this, please let me know so I can post your name here!

Satira was brainstorming for a circlet idea in the Do The Dhu chatroom, and this was my contribution.

a simple waved gold circlet
A perfect continuous ring of gold has been faintly etched with an undulating series of tiny tea leaves, flowing like dark silhouttes against the smooth metal.  The surface of the circlet has been polished to a flawless glassy finish, gleaming so brightly it might serve as a mirror.

Desian had a very very very long night, and Ashbyrl was one of the last few to get work done. Lucky for him; all he knew was that he wanted gleaming/etched war plate with Voln, combat and runes.

some etched silver war plate
Gleaming silver plate has been intricately etched with the scene of a group of Voln fighters, easily recognizable by various symbols of power, magic and weaponry, fighting a swarm of undead horses. The horde of raging nightmares churns in battle, those foremost dissolving in a cloud of smoke as each is released. Framing the entire scene are emerald-inlaid runes reading a common Voln prayer of protection.

Another end-of-night design, this one for Linkto. I'll spare you the horrors of the original ideas. Suffice it to say, "We are NOT dressing you up like a Thrakmas advert!"

an onyx-clasped silvery wool cloak
Embroidered across the back, a crimson dragon spreads wings wide across the cloud-white sky, head down to spit a stream of fire into the thatched rooves of a small village. Panicked animals stampede across the blackened earth, villagers following, some of them ablaze themselves.
